You finally found a candle you love. So naturally, the first question becomes: how long is this going to last?
How Long Do Scented Candles Last on Average?
- Small candles (4–6 oz): 20–40 hours
- Medium candles (8–10 oz): 40–60 hours
- Large candles (16 oz): 60–80+ hours
Our 16oz Texas Candles are rated for up to 80 hours of burn time. At one two-hour burn per evening, that's 40 evenings from a single candle.
Do Candles Lose Their Scent Over Time?
Yes — but much of it is preventable. Fragrance oils slowly off-gas from the surface even when the candle isn't burning. In a well-made soy candle, you should have a year or more before noticeable scent loss with proper storage.
How to Store Candles to Preserve Scent
- Keep the lid on when not in use.
- Store in a cool, dark place.
- Keep away from fans and air vents.
The First Burn Is the Most Important
The single most impactful thing you can do: burn it long enough on the first use. Allow 2–3 hours on the first burn until the melt pool reaches the edges. Every burn after that will be even and consistent.
Trim Your Wick Before Every Burn
Trim your wood wick to about 1/8 inch before each burn. A properly trimmed wick burns slower, cleaner, and preserves scent over the full life of the candle.
