How to Burn a Candle Properly
Proper candle use helps maintain appearance and performance over time. Simple habits can make a noticeable difference in how long your candle lasts and how evenly it burns.
First Burn Matters
Allow the wax to melt evenly across the surface during the first burn. This helps create a uniform melt pool for future burns and prevents tunneling. Aim for at least 2–3 hours on the first light.
Trim the Wick
Keeping the wick trimmed to about 1/4 inch before each burn supports a steady flame, reduces soot, and extends the life of your candle.
Burn Time Guidelines
Burn candles for 2–4 hour intervals and allow them to cool fully between uses. Avoid burning for more than 4 hours at a time. Stop use when 1/2 inch of wax remains.
